G8 modifies agenda

World leaders have commissioned a global investigation into the safety of genetically modified food. In a joint communiqué issued this week at their summit in Cologne, Germany, leaders of the G8 nations invited the Paris-based OECD—which represents the world’s industrialised nations—to prepare two studies on biotechnology. One will focus on whether genetically modified food is safe to eat; the other will examine how biotechnology is regulated in different countries.
